Rev. Erin Burns ~ Minister
I am thrilled to be joining the ministry team at Trinity, and have appreciated the warm welcome I have received! I am a creative and energetic leader, with experience in a variety of ministry settings, from small rural pastoral charges, to urban churches, to police chaplaincy. I was educated at Queens Theological College, where I realized my passion for social justice and the importance of lived-out faith. I have a progressive theology and want to explore scripture in its historical context as well as current use. Community is central to my understanding of Christian faith, and after spending some time at home with my children, I am excited to be back in active ministry. I am a fearless knitter, and fibre artist, I enjoy reading, painting and my vegetable garden. I look forward to getting to know the community here at Trinity, and hope folks will continue to introduce themselves as I get settled in. I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for us.
Jessica Knoyle ~ Congregational Development Minister
As an Early Childhood Educator and life-long Minister’s kid, I am very excited to be part of the Trinity Team! I grew up in Peterborough, ON in the United Church and moved to Ottawa in 2001. Over the years, I have participated in many musical theatre productions, co-directed a couple of musical theatre shows, sung in many choirs and directed the children’s choir at my former church in Peterborough. I began work as an ECE in 2001 after graduating from Sir Sandford Fleming College and was working as a nanny for a family three years prior to that. I met my husband Jonathan in the UK and we decided that a move to Ottawa was the way forward. We’ve since had two beautiful daughters who are full of energy and life and we are very blessed! Over the past 13 years, I’ve run my own home daycare business which was a wonderful experience. I had 30 children come through my doors! I also enjoy singing, going for forest walks, cycling, travelling, cross-stitching and embroidery. I’m feeling very blessed and excited to be part of the team here at Trinity and I look forward to the journey we will have together!
Dr. James McGowan ~ Director of Music
I serve as the Director of Music at Trinity, where I conduct the adult choir, and play organ (a three-manual Casavant) and piano in services. My principal work is as a professor of music at Carleton University, where I teach music theory, musicianship, and composition, in addition to some performance and jazz studies. As part of my university work, I also perform piano, conduct choirs, compose (classical to jazz to pop), and publish and present research in music theory.
I enjoy sharing musical experiences with people of all ages and skill levels. To me, music can be both entertainment and an art form, but also much more. It is both a personal expression of one’s heart, mind, and soul, as well as a form of meaningful communication. Choral singing empowers a message with unified sound in a supportive community to reach out to others, and makes you live longer and happier! Music and all the arts help us to engage more passionately within each of our spiritual journeys. I am happy to be part of the warm and affirming community at Trinity.

My office hours are Monday to Thursday, 9:00am to 3:00pm.
Sara-Lynn Hutchison, M.Mus., B.Mus.Perf. ~ Director of Joyful Noise! Children’s Choir
I grew up singing in the children’s choir of my United Church in Toronto. For over 10 years I was the full-time pianist and coach with St. Mary Choir School in London, Ontario. I have also served as an accompanist or assistant director for several children’s and adult choirs. In 2010, I completed training in the Kodaly method at James Madison University. I look forward to making music, having fun, and guiding the young voices of Trinity’s Joyful Noise! Choir.
