Justice & Kindness

We give of ourselves in the Trinity United Way, choosing among many personal ways to offer our volunteer time, passions for justice and kindness, and our charitable givings.

  • Each year our Church in Society Committee offers education and action opportunities to make a difference in the world. From child poverty and aboriginal rights, to global warming and water issues, at Trinity we learn, pray and act together to help save God's world.
  • We sign petitions, write letters for Amnesty campaigns and even occasionally demonstrate on Parliament Hill, when the Spirit calls us to stand up for justice and peace.

  • Our Trinity Outreach Committee offers personal time and attention to local seniors in social housing, funds kids to summer camp and co-ordinates our Festival of Sharing, which delivers our gifts and food vouchers to more than 65 less privileged families at Christmas.
  • Our Pastoral Care Team and Visiting Elders – about 20 of us – support our most elderly members and those who are ill or struggling with life changes. Our pastoral caring includes friendly visits, drives to the doctor, regular phone calls and flowers, as well as funeral receptions.
  • Trinity is consistently one of the top 3 giving churches in our region to the United Church Mission & Service Fund.
  • Trinity maintains a budget line of more than $7000 annually for supporting local projects with Carlington Community Health Services, Caldwell Family Centre and Food Bank – well above any other local church.
  • Activists in ActionOn Sundays, many of us purchase grocery cards so that 5% of our shopping dollars can be donated (at no cost to us) for snacks at a nearby Headstart Nursery program.

Trinity Jubilee Foundation

TJF is a separate charitable organization formed here in 2001 to redistribute excess wealth to those in critical need. TJF works with non-profit organizations and secures matching government funds to sponsor projects like building wells in Africa with Water Can, funding a school in Sierra Leone with Cause Canada, and an AIDS hospice in South Africa.

Tar Sands

On November 20, Trinity was pleased to welcome Tony Clarke, Executive Director of Polaris Institute, with his presentation on the Tar Sands. The material is largely available in his book "Tar Sands Showdown". Photographer Louis Helbig was also able to join us, with his acclaimed aerial photographs of the area.
